Willard
Projects :: Before
|

This is a "before" photo of the Willard deck. As
you can see, frost heaving was a major problem for this customer.
The finished deck contains "free-standing" steps
because of this (see the finished project photos).

This is another before photo of the Willard project that shows
the fence that was replaced when the deck was renovated (see
the finished project photos).

This photo shows the new decking. The frame beneath was still
in good shape so there was no need for it to be replaced.

Projects :: After
|
|
This job involved many different projects: Constructing a
new deck, steps and rails; Constructing a fence (which can
be removed during winter months) with a locking gate. Installing
a pre-fabricated 6-foot PVC fence around yard.

A great view of the decking and steps. The steps are free-standing
to allow for frost-heaving, which was a major problem with
the customer's previous deck.

A photo of the rails along steps. They are constructed of
pressure-treated wood with copper capping on the posts.

By the customer's clever request, an 18-inch opening was left
below the railing for easy snow removal during the winter
months.

The top rails are 2 X 6 pressure-treated lumber. The rungs
are placed 4 inches apart to comply with local building codes.

This photo shows an inside view of the rails. The customer
chose a natural color stain to allow wood grain to show through.

The frame to this porch was still in very good shape, so I
replaced the decking and applied a trim board to the front.
Both the rails and the decking were constructed from pressure-treated
lumber.

The lattice beneath the decking is made of pre-fabricated
PVC to which I constructed a frame of pressure-treated wood.

A close-up view of the fence, which is sold in 6 X 6 sections
which are joined and attached at the posts. A very low-maintenance
choice.
