About Us
My husband, Chris Hood, was employed by E.F. Wall & Associates,
Inc. for eight years. During that time, he honed his trade as a
carpenter and became a well-respected employee.
When I unexpectedly became unemployed two years ago, Chris began
doing some side work on the weekends to supplement the loss in our
income. Because of his great rapport with his customers and high
quality work, his side jobs have not ended since.
Even when I eventually returned to work, Chris kept up his side
work. In addition to his carpentry
work, Chris began to put his long time interest in antique architecture
to use by tearing down and removing
old barns from people's properties. Salvaging the wood from
these structures is a passion of Chris'. Most customers tend to
feel the same sentiment. They feel good knowing that the wood will
eventually be reused to restore an existing barn, or for one of
many other uses. "It's hard seeing a part of Vermont's history
being torn apart." says Chris. "But I'm careful. Almost
everything that comes out of these barns can be reused, hopefully
to restore another barn that just needs some tender loving care.
But the wood can also be used for furniture or even home remodeling.
People love the look of hand hewn beams and barn board in their
homes. Hardly anything goes to waste, and the barn gets to live
on."
But working seven days a week began to take a toll on Chris, and
that was when Cougar Construction Company, Inc. was born. Though
sad to see him go, everyone at E.F. Wall & Associates, Inc.
were nothing but supportive of Chris and his new business venture.
Chris will miss working there as well. "It was very hard to
leave," he said. "I worked with so many great people.
I will be keeping in touch with many of them. Much of the experience
that I have now comes from my many years of working with them. I
can't forget that."
One of the trades Chris learned at E.F. Wall was erecting pre-fabricated
metal buildings, which is a product that we will be offering
at Cougar Construction.
"I love the fact that we offer many different types of services
to our customers." says Chris. "I have always loved doing
construction. From the small odd job to helping people get their
dream project done. It's very rewarding work. And now that I can
pursue other avenues that I have always wanted to as well, like
getting right in there and saving the remains of an old barn...
well, that's just icing on the cake!!"
Not to mention the fact that he's finally home on weekends instead
of working seven days a week. That's the icing on my cake.
